Upshur County teacher awarded P.E. Teacher of the Year

TENNERTON, W. Va. (WDTV) - A P.E. teacher from Upshur County was recognized for her strong dedication to her students and the community.

Karen Leigh, who teaches at Tennerton Elementary received the West Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Teacher of the Year on Wednesday.

Her co workers, as well as her students and Upshur County Schools Superintendent Dr. Sara Stankus held a ceremony for her at the school's gym. She says her students inspire her.

"I'm really privileged and happy I won this award. I like to thank my kids. They're the ones that inspire me," said Leigh.

She also serves throughout the community with organizations such as summer basketball program, planning coordinator for Buckhannon-Upshur High School band and the list goes on.
