UPDATE: Police say victim in fatal accident may have had stroke

UPDATE

According to the Westover Police Department, it is believed a man in his late '50s had a stroke, causing him to crash into another vehicle on I-79 Wednesday morning, killing him.

It is believed the man was traveling Southbound on I-79, before the medical emergency caused him to drift into the Northbound lanes, hitting another vehicle and causing both vehicles to go over the median.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital and was responsive at the time. There is no other word on her condition.

The man's identity has not been released at this time.

Officials say both I-79 Northbound lanes have been reopened after a fatal accident near the Westover.

According to officials, a man was killed in the accident, and a woman injured.

Officials say it is believed the man was traveling Southbound on I-79 and had a medical emergency, causing him to drift into the Northbound lanes. The man's truck hit another car on the lefthand side. Both cars went over the median near the 152-mile marker.

The man's identity has not been released at this time.

The female driver of the other vehicle was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital. Officials say she was responsive. There is no further word on her condition.

The Westover Police Department is handling the investigation.

A man is dead after a two-vehicle accident in Monongalia County, Wednesday morning.

According to officials on scene, it is believed that the man was traveling Southbound on I-79 and likely had a medical emergency causing him to drift into the Northbound lanes. The man's truck hit another car on the lefthand side. Both cars went over the median near the 152-mile marker.

A female driver was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital and was fully responsive at the time.

Westover Police are handling the investigation.

The Morgantown/ Westover exit and the right Northbound lane is expected to remain closed until around 9 am.

Officials on scene have confirmed that at least one person has died after a two-vehicle- accident on I-79 near Northbound in Monongalia County.

There's no word on the person's identity at this time. There's also no word on if anyone else was injured.

The Morgantown/ Westover exit is closed along with the right northbound lane near mile marker 152.

ORIGINAL STORY

Multiple units responded to a vehicle accident with a reported fatality on I-79 in the Morgantown-Westover area early Wednesday morning.

Not many details are being released at this time, but 911 dispatchers tell 5 News it happened near mile marker 152. According to the Mecca 911 log, the incident is listed as a "Medical Rescue with Death."

A stretch of the interstate is shut down.

Westover Police, Granville Police, Monongalia County Sheriffs Department, Westover Fire, and Monongalia County EMS responded to the scene.

A 5 News reporter is headed to the scene.
