WESTON, W.Va. (WDTV) -- Police in Weston are warning residents of a new phone scam involving Mon Power.

The resident was asked to call 877-257-339 to pay their past-due bill to Mon Power, police said.

Police said so far they only received one report.

Weston Police offered some red flags to watch out for to avoid falling victim of this scam or any others:

"- Numbers that show up on a caller ID from another country
- The payment method that the scammer wants you to use. These scammers are generally not equipped to process a credit card over the phone and will want payment in the form of a gift card, iTunes card, prepaid money card, etc.
- Lastly, offers that seem too good to be true."
