Zombie Snakes! They're a topic popping up all over the internet, but can they really be found in West Virginia?

The answer: Yes, they can. But, there are some things you should know before you lock yourself inside your house and never go outside again.

According to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, Zombie Snakes are actually called Hognose Snakes. These snakes "play dead" as a defense mechanism to ward off prey. According to CNN, they can also stick out their tongue, convulse and even defecate to sell the act. Part of their defense, they can spring into action and "strike repeatedly." However, that's pretty rare.

WVDNR told 5 News that Zombie Snakes are not venomous and are pretty harmless to humans. We're also told by the DNR that the animals have a shovel-shaped head to bury themselves in the ground.
