Groundbreaking ceremony marks construction start for compressor station
Dominion Energy executives and state officials met today to celebrate the construction of a new compressor station.
As part of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, the compressor station will be used to help facilitate the transfer of natural gas.
The pipeline stretches over 600 miles, spanning from West Virginia to North Carolina.
The project is expected to be one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country, but has drawn criticism from environmental groups.
State Secretary of Commerce Woody Thrasher says he's eager to see the project bring thousands of local jobs into our area.
"This is going to create thousands and thousands of construction jobs," said Thrasher. "It' also going to create the pipeline, which will create thousands of jobs to keep that gas flowing."
The project is expected to be completed in two years.
