The name of the Shinnston Public Works Department employee who died last Friday after a trench wall gave way while working on storm sewer has been released.
According to a statement from Shinnston mayor Pat Kovalck, Robert Stark passed away Friday after a workplace accident on Van Rufus Drive. Stark was working when the wall gave way trapping him. Other employees jumped in immediately to begin rescue efforts and called 911.
Multiple police, fire, and EMS arrived on scene as well as Helthnet.
Mayor Kovalck says
" The City of Shinnston and all of our resources, thoughts, and prayers are with the family at this time and throughout the days ahead."
A Shinnston city employee had died after a workplace accident Friday in the city.
The Shinnston Public Works Department was working on a storm sewer on Van Rufus Drive Friday afternoon near Lincoln High School.
"A trench wall gave way and trapped one of the workers," a press release said.
Rescue efforts were then underway to save the man by first responders from the Shinnston Police and Fire Departments, along with Lumberport, Bridgeport and Harrison County EMS. Healthnet was also at the accident.
"Today, Shinnston mourns the loss of one of our best employees," said the city's official statement. "The City of Shinnston and all of our resources, thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time and throughout the days ahead."
Officials have not released the name of the employee pending notification of all family members.

A man is recovering after officials say he fell inside a hole.
According to Harrison County 911 officials, the man fell into a hole near Lincoln High School.
According to dispatchers, he was rescued a short time later.
His injuries are unknown at this time,
