Clay-Battelle Clinches First-Ever State Tournament Berth

Clay-Battelle is heading to Vienna for the first time in school history. The Cee Bees beat Moorefield, 6-5 in Blacksville on Friday evening to clinch a spot in the state tournament in game 3 of the Region 2 series.

Clay-Battelle won the first game of the series, 2-1 on Wednesday, but the Yellow Jackets responded in game two on Thursday evening, 10-2, to force a decisive game 3.

On Friday night, Cameron Watson hit the go-ahead RBI double in the fifth inning to give Clay-Battelle a 6-4 lead, one the team would never surrender.

On the mound, Caitlyn Kassay threw a complete game with 13 strike outs, 1 ER and 5 hits.

The Cee Bees will meet Greenbrier West in the opening round of the state tournament in Vienna on Wednesday.
