For the second consecutive season, the Polar Bears will finish as the state runner-up, as Fairmont Senior (26-2) fell to Chapmanville (26-2) in the AA state title game, 60-46 in Charleston on Saturday afternoon.
Westside got out to an early 7-2 lead, but the Tigers responded in the form of a 14-1 run, and took a 16-10 lead after the first quarter. The Polar Bears shot just 25-percent from the field in the first half.
After trailing by 12 at halftime, the Polar Bears came within 2 points on a Zyon Dobbs jumper with 4 minutes to play, but they never got any closer.
Jalen Bridges, who was held to 2 first half points, finished with a team-high 17 to go along with 11 rebounds. Dasilas Jones added 13, and Zyon Dobbs finished with 7 points and 8 assists.
This was the final game for Polar Bear senior's Bridges, Dobbs, Jones and Patrick Laxton, who will conclude their high school careers with two state championships (2016 & 2017) and 2 runner-up finishes (2018 & 2019).
