IUP Too Much for Fairmont State as Crimson Hawks Win, 83-64

Third-ranked Indiana (PA) outscored No. 18 Fairmont State 22-8 over the final nine minutes of the game to pick up an 83-64 win in Friday's top 25 matchup at Joe Retton Arena.

The unbeaten (10-0) Crimson Hawks shot blistering 56.5 percent from the field, including over 64 percent in the second half to close out the victory. IUP outscored the Falcons 44-22 in the paint and also held a double-digit advantage on the glass (45-30).

With IUP leading 44-29 following a dunk by Willem Brandwijk early in the second half, Fairmont State clawed its way back into the game by outscoring the Crimson Hawks 27-17 over the next nine minutes of play to make the margin just five (61-56) with 9:12 remaining.

However, IUP regained control of the game with a quick 11-1 run to extend its lead back to 15 with just over six minutes to play. From the point the Crimson Hawks led by double digits the rest of the way.

Vonte Montgomery recorded his second-consecutive 30-points scoring performance in the setback by finishing with a game-high 30 points and nine rebounds. Jason Jolly also reached double-figures with 11 and Troy Cantrell chipped in seven points off the bench.

The Falcons (8-3) managed just 34.8 percent from the field in the loss, including just 27 percent from behind the arc (9-of-33). Fairmont State made just 1-of-12 shots from behind the arc (8.3%) in the opening half.

Dante Lombardi scored a team-high 22 points to go with four assists to lead the Crimson Hawks. Malik Miller also chipped in 20 points, four rebounds and five assists, and Jacobo Diaz finished the game with a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 12 boards. Brandwijk pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds to go with nine points.

The Falcons will now break for Christmas, before returning to action on Sunday, Dec. 30 against Cheyney in an exhibition game. Tip is set for 4 p.m. at Joe Retton Arena.
