Despite Governor Jim Justice's date of June 8 for a return to outdoor youth sports, some leagues across North Central West Virginia are not as hopeful that a 2020 summer season will happen. That includes Lewis County.
Lewis County baseball association president Jimmy Fealy says he isn't "overly optimistic" about a PONY league season.
"We have to protect our kids and the families in the community and that's what we intend to do," Fealy said. "We think its going to be really hard to have a season."
Fealy said between the baseball and softball programs there were around 300 kids signed up to participate in the summer league.
"I hate it for the youth in this county that need but safety has to come first."
The association says it will make a decision about the upcoming season in the coming days. Fealy says that meeting may involve focusing their efforts on planning various summer clinics or concentrating on the fall ball season which begins in August.
