West Virginia Director of Athletics Shane Lyons met with the media on Wednesday afternoon for his summer briefing and a big part of that meeting was the reveal of the information found in a study about the economic impact of WVU Athletics on the state of West Virginia and Monongalia County.
The study, conducted in the 2017-18 academic by Tripp Umach, a national leader in economic impact research, found that WVU Athletics generated $302 million dollars for the state and $78.8 million for Mon County. Of that $300 mil, $223.4 million as from football.
It also found that WVU Athletics produced over 2-thousand and one-hundred jobs for the state and over 700 within Mon County.
