WVU athletic director Shane Lyons said on a Wednesday teleconference that he is "optimistic" that football will return to Morgantown on-time.
"Based on my conversations, they feel once we get to late summer that normal life would hopefully be back," he said today via Zoom. "Its my understanding in some recent phone calls in the last 48 hours that the pandemic will spike here in the next 2-3 weeks. If you look at what we learned from China, they said after the spike, it was roughly three months that they started to get back to normal.
"Hopefully that would be the case and it starts to flatten out and by late summer, we are ready to play football."
The Mountaineers are scheduled to kick off their season on September 5 against Florida State at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
