The Mountaineers did not have long to sulk in the disappointment of falling to Oklahoma State, 5-2, in the Big 12 Championship game. While on the flight home from Oklahoma City, when the plane was close enough to the ground for some sort of phone signal, some Mountaineer players raced to Twitter and saw the news: a Morgantown Regional.
For the first time since 1955, and the first-time ever at Mon County Ball Park, West Virginia will host NCAA tournament baseball.
Mountaineers will host Fordham, Duke and Texas A&M in the four team double-elimination tournament. Fordham will be West Virginia's first opponent on Friday night at 8 p.m. Duke and Texas A&M will meet at 4 p.m. Winners of Friday night's game will play on Saturday at 7 p.m., while the losers will duel it out in an elimination game at 2 p.m.
The Mountaineers are back in the NCAA tournament for the second time in three seasons, when the team played and lost in a regional at Wake Forest.
