Drew Saylor won the 2018 Minor League Manager of the Year Award with the Los Angeles Dodgers Class A affiliate, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. Now, Saylor will begin a new quest a little bit closer to his home of Akron, Ohio as the new manager of the West Virginia Black Bears.
Saylor, who also serves as the Pittsburgh Pirates Assistant Hitting Coordinator, brings a modern approach to the game to Morgantown. His Black Bear players say his philosophy is based around baseball analytics and sabermetrics, which he will use to help in the development of his club this summer.
Saylor and the Black Bears begin their season on Friday, as they open a two game set with Mahoning Valley at 7:05 p.m.
