West Virginia baseball welcomed Texas A&M, Duke & Fordham to Mon County Ballpark on Thursday ahead of the start of the NCAA Morgantown regional which begins on Friday.
"I have been saying it for years that this day was coming in our program," WVU Head Coach Randy Mazey said. "I don’t know if anyone outside myself, my coaching staff and the players believed it, but it’s here. We still have a long way to go. This isn’t the end of the road for us. It’s just a step along the road, but we’re super excited to be hosting a regional and having teams from the SEC and ACC come in here."
Duke and Texas A&M are slated to play at 4 p.m., while West Virginia and Fordham will meet in the late game at 8 p.m.
The Mountaineers are expecting record crowds, as all-session tickets are sold out for the weekend.
West Virginia is hosting an NCAA regional for the first time since 1955, and only the second time in program history. The Mountaineers are making their second NCAA tournament appearance in three years. WVU played in the Wake Forest regional in 2017. The Mountaineers played all the way to the region final, where they lost the Demon Deacons.
