University dynamic duo of Metheny & McClurg top Class AAA First team

Childhood friends Kaden Metheny and K.J. McClurg hoped to cap their monumental high school careers with their second consecutive state championship. Although that is still up in the air, the two accomplished another feat together by both being named to the Class AAA All-State teams on Friday.

Metheny is the captain of the first team after averaging nearly 25 points for the Hawks and eclipsing the 2,000 career point mark during his senior season. McClurg added 20 points a game and the two combined for one of the most lethal 1-2 punches across the state.

Morgantown's Carson Poffenberger was a second team selection. The junior forward was a force in the middle for the Mohigans and had 13 points and 6 rebounds a game.

Buckhannon-Upshur's Ryan Hurst and Preston's Nick Smith were selected on the third team. Hurst led the Bucs with a steady 16 points each game while Smith filled up the stat sheet for the Knights with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists per game.
