Former West Virginia University left-handed pitcher John Means has been called up to the Major Leagues by the Baltimore Orioles.
Means is making his first career appearance on an MLB roster. A Mountaineer in 2013 and 2014, he was drafted by the Orioles in the 11th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. Means is the second Mountaineer to earn his first MLB call-up this season and the third currently on a big-league roster.
When Means makes is MLB debut, he will become the 24th player in program history to play in the Major Leagues.
A native of Olathe, Kansas, Means was named to an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2014 and to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2014. He started 25 career games as a Mountaineer and earned a record of 10-6. Means posted a 3.24 ERA with 100 strikeouts in 141.2 innings pitched. He gave up 51 earned runs on 145 hits with 40 walks.
