After throwing out an outstanding 20 batters in 2019, WVU senior catcher Ivan Gonzalez is headed to the pros. Gonzalez was drafted in the 8th round of the MLB Draft, 230th overall, by the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday afternoon.
Gonzalez started all 60 games for the Mountaineers this season, including 41 as a catcher, and earned All-Big 12 second team honors.
He ranked third on the team with a .294 batting average and second with a .397 on base percentage.
Pudge, as he is affectionately called by his peers, started in 162 games for the Mountaineers in his four-year career and has been an anchor in the catcher position for West Virginia since arriving on campus.
