FIRST ON 5 NEWS: Man killed in police shooting in Grafton identified

GRAFTON, W.Va. (WDTV) - UPDATE 4:20 PM

According to the Taylor County Prosecuting Attorney, Daniel McMasters has died after a police-involved shooting in Grafton.

"Shocking, I don't like it," said Melinda Lasley. "It was very traumatizing. I just think it's a terrible tragedy."

"He was just a friend," said Michelle Worden. "I saw an ambulance and thought it was my mother in law so I stopped to check on her."


UPDATE 3:30 PM

According to the Taylor County Prosecuting Attorney, a man wanted on a bench warrant has died after a police-involved shooting in Grafton. The shooting happened around 12:30 Friday afternoon on Pearl Street in Grafton.

The Prosecuting Attorney told 5 News that the man had been wanted on a circuit court capias.

Officers from Grafton City Police, the Taylor County Sheriff's Department, and West Virginia State Police all responded to the scene. the Grafton Volunteer Fire Department and Taylor County EMS also responded.

5 News is still on scene in Grafton where police still have not given us any updated information about a reported shooting at a home on Pearl Street.

We will have a live report Friday from the scene where we will hear what neighbors have to say.


UPDATE 1:42 PM

5 News has been told by a person who lives in the home on Pearl Street in Grafton that the shooting victim was flown to the hospital.

Authorities have not confirmed this information to us. We are continuing to work to get more information.

There is heavy police activity on Pearl Street in Grafton where there are reports of another possible shooting.

A neighbor told 5 News that there was a shooting inside a house on that street. 911 officials said that there was a possible shooting.

Police have not confirmed whether or not a shooting happened in that area.
