First Alert Weather Event: Blizzard Conditions Persist in High Elevations & More Snowfall Events on the Way
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) -
Locations in our lower elevation western and central counties may wake up to a light coating of snow on Thursday due to lingering rain showers transitioning to snow overnight. It’s a very different story in our eastern high elevations (primarily above 2500’), which saw blizzard conditions persist throughout much of Wednesday and will continue to do so into Thursday morning. Per usual, in our eastern mountain counties, snowfall totals on Thursday morning will be highly dependent on elevation, likely ranging from 1 to 3 inches below 2500’, 3 to 6 inches between 2500’ and 3500’, and 6 to 10 inches above 3500’.
Morning lows on Thursday will range from the low to mid 20s in our western and central counties to the low to mid teens in our highest elevations. Afternoon highs will only rise into the low 30s in our western and central counties, and upper teens to low 20s in our highest elevations. Blizzard conditions in our high elevations will taper off throughout the morning hours on Thursday, but expect isolated to scattered snow showers to continue to traverse the entirety of NCWV throughout Thursday. Additional snowfall accumulation will likely not be very impressive on Thursday, ranging from no accumulation to less than an inch in our western and central counties to 1 to 3 inches in our eastern high elevations.
On Friday, a clipper-style system will move into WV, likely providing us with a light to moderate snowfall event. As of now, I am expecting additional snowfall totals on Friday to range from 1 to 3 inches in our western and central counties to 2 to 5 inches in our eastern counties (likely heaviest in the highest elevations).
Models are currently suggesting that sometime during the PM hours of Saturday, a more potent snowfall event will begin to unfold across NCWV. This event will likely continue into at least early Sunday morning. A lot can change over the next few days regarding this system, but as of now, I am expecting additional widespread snowfall totals of 3 to 6 inches, but I would not be surprised if I have to increase those forecasted totals.
