UPDATE: Officer who fatally shot Tamir Rice resigns from WV police department

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (WVVA) - The former Cleveland police officer who fatally shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice in 2014 has resigned from the White Sulphur Springs Police Department.
White Sulphur Springs Mayor Kathy Glover released this statement:
“At the request and recommendation of the Chief of Police for the City of White Sulphur Springs, Timothy Loehmann was hired as a probationary Police Officer and an at-will employee for the City of White Sulphur Springs. As of today, Monday, July 1, 2024, Timothy Loehmann has resigned his position and is no longer an employee with the City of White Sulphur Springs. Since this is an employment matter, I will have no further comment.”
According to WVVA’s sister station WOIO, Timothy Loehmann shot Tamir Rice on November 22, 2014, while playing with a pellet gun outside of the Cudell Recreation Center.
Rice would have been 22 years old on June 25.
Loehmann was not charged in relation to the shooting and was cleared by a Cuyahoga County grand jury and Cleveland’s Critical Incident Review Commission.
However, Loehmann lost his job with the Cleveland Police Department for lying on his application.
Loehmann was hired by the Village of Bellaire Police Department in Ohio in 2018, but later resigned from the force there. He also withdrew his application from the Tioga Borough Police Department in Pennsylvania in 2022 after news surfaced on social media.
