Clarksburg swears in new mayor, two city council members
CLARKSBURG, W.Va (WDTV) - Clarksburg swore in its new mayor and two city council members Wednesday during a ceremony at city hall.
Former councilman Wayne Worth took the oath of office as mayor. Council members Andrew Banko and Rocky Romano were also sworn in at the ceremony.
First direct mayoral race in city history
Worth won the mayoral race in May with 51.87 percent of the vote, defeating Mateen Abdul-Aziz and Tyler Hart. The election marked the first-ever direct mayoral race in Clarksburg’s history.
Worth speaks on service, community
“I’m beginning to smell the roses a little bit now, you know, because it is quite an honor. It really is. But for me, you know, it’s not about the politics. It’s about the service. And I’m not going to change who I am. I mean, I’ll still be out there in the trenches picking up litter in the city,” Worth said. “I’ll still be a member of my Lions Club and joining civic organizations and building those relationships to help our city grow more. Because I believe that’s where really the rubber hits the road.”
During his remarks, Worth thanked his late father, grandfather and grandmother. Worth moved to Clarksburg in 2011.
