Officials say 72-year-old man died in accident involving police vehicle

FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WDTV)-- UPDATED 07/10/19 11:44 p.m.

According to a Facebook post regarding the incident, Fairmont Police have reported that the victim of the accident is a 72-year-old Fairmont man.

At this time, they say it is believed that the man ran a stop sign and collided with a Fairmont Police Department vehicle.

The officer and his K-9 are reported to be okay and police would like to send their condolences to the friends and family of the victim.

According to Marion County 911 officials, two cars were involved in the fatal accident on the road Wednesday afternoon.

According to 911 officials, one of the cars was a Fairmont Police truck.
