Buckhannon neighborhood road under six feet of water
BUCKHANNON, W.Va (WDTV) - Residents on Morgan Addition Street in Buckhannon are experiencing major flooding issues.
Halfway down Morgan Addition, about three feet of water covers the street and towards the center, around six feet. These conditions make it difficult for residents on the other side to get anywhere. Jeff Streets said he has to drive an ATV to get his mom to and from her house.
“This morning my mother had an eye doctor appointment because she can only see out of one eye, and I had to drive her with the four-wheeler through the water on the other side following the river line all the way up here to come back and around,” Streets said. “She’s 90 years old, I try helping her as much as I can.”
According to another resident, Daniel Flack, who’s lived on Morgan Addition for 19 years, flooding will occasionally happen but never for this long.
“It just took us by surprise that it was up that high that quickly,” Flack said. “Normally, it drains fairly quickly but there has to be something clogged down there that’s keeping it from draining.”
5News reached out to WV Department of Transportation for a solution, and this was their statement:
“WVDOH is currently evaluating the culvert that goes through the area and studying surveys provided by the city of Buckhannon. preliminary engineering is occurring to find a permanent solution on this road. WVDOH is working cooperatively with the city.”
As for the folks on Morgan addition, they’ll have to keep their boots handy until there’s a solution. It’s unclear exactly when the problem may get fixed.
