Harrison County man admits guilt after making threats against Trump, ICE agents in videos
CLARKSBURG, W.Va (WDTV) - A Clarksburg man arrested in January 2026 has admitted to making threats against President Donald Trump and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Cody Smith, 20, admitted to threatening to kill the president and harm ICE agents. Investigators said Homeland Security and ICE agents reviewed Smith’s Instagram posts and confirmed multiple threats against the president, his supporters and federal law enforcement.
Officials said Smith also sent a direct message to Donald Trump Jr. on Jan. 17 — the same day as the posts — that contained a sexually violent threat against the president.
On Jan. 18, Smith called the ICE tipline and threatened to kill ICE agents in Clarksburg, along with the operator and the operator’s family, according to officials.
Smith faces up to five years in prison for the presidential threats charge and up to 10 years for the threats against ICE agents, but sentencing has not been set yet.
